Chulalongkorn University - Nan Learning Journey

In collaboration with Chulalongkorn University’s Office of International Affairs and Global Network, this project was created to open up space for international students and Thai youth to learn together through shared experiences. In this edition, we welcomed 15 Chulalongkorn international graduate students from 8 countries and diverse academic backgrounds, coming together to explore real-world issues alongside local communities.

Our journey took us to Nan Province, known not only for its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage, but also for its vulnerability to natural disasters.

Through this program, we explored how social, cultural, and environmental issues intersect, especially in communities that are deeply affected by flash floods, landslides, and forest degradation. Before heading to the field, participants received a grounding in key topics such as disaster risks in Nan, the root causes of environmental change, and the vital role of community-led conservation.

Then we took learning into the real world. Together with local youth, participants stepped into the field to exchange ideas, listen deeply, and co-develop approaches for disaster preparedness rooted in local knowledge. This is what we call a classroom without walls — one that grows from real people and real places.
